This year I decided to lead the inaugural Team Young Life for Northern Colorado. For those of you who don’t know, Young Life is an organization that impacts kids lives through building relationships. Young Life leaders meet kids on their turf (usually school) in the interest of friendship. As leaders get to know students they are able to share the love of Jesus Christ through platforms like weekly Young Life clubs, campaigner groups and trips to Young Life camps.
The goal of Team Young Life is to help raise support for the mission of Young Life through an activity such as biking. Since I love biking, I felt that leading the first Team Young Life group for Northern Colorado would be a great way to give back to the community.
We currently have 10 members who have joined to ride for our team. We will be riding the Denver Century together on June 14, 2014. Each week leading up to the century we get together for a group training ride. Last week we had a great turnout for our first ride together and everyone had a great time.
As a team, our goal is to raise $6500 for our local Young Life organization. By supporting Young Life, we are reaching kids that no one else is reaching. Each week leaders go into the schools and build one-on-one relationships with kids that would never darken the door of the church. Kids that have never had anyone care about them suddenly have someone in their life that wants to build a relationship with them.
I am excited about building a team of people who love biking and love kids. With 10 weeks to go until the Denver Century, the countdown has begun for training. Riding 100 miles on a bike is no easy feat, and I’m proud of each member of the team who has decided to make the sacrifice to train and help spread the message of Jesus Christ to the kids of Northern Colorado.
